For 17 years we farmed together in Mid Canterbury. As well as stock farming we grew a variety of vegetable and grass seed, cereal, process food and specialist pharmaceutical crops. In 2000 on a spur of the moment decision we sold two farms. In 2001 we found Matua. It made us smile. It was no contest. The wonderful sea views, the cottage, the garden, the stream – it just felt like coming home. Since the dramatic lifestyle change we have continued with our passions of growing things and cooking. We have discovered new challenges like sailing and bridge and have travelled more. Since the children left school the fabulous Court Theatre and Isaac Theatre Royal have taken the place of pipe band and school productions. Our strong conservation values continue on our property & in the community.

After the move we set about creating a business. Somewhere people could totally relax while being discreetly catered for. Somewhere offering luxury without being pretentious. Somewhere international and New Zealand travellers could experience true Kiwi hospitality, warmth, caring and nourishing beautiful food.

We have two children born in the mid 1980s. At present the only pets are the free range hens. We aren’t quite ready for another dog. We love where we live and we love to share it with people who value special places and experiences.
